A primer on hair extensions for your wedding day
Extensions!
We all get by with a little help from our friends. In my world, my most helpful friends go by the names of Sandy Blonde, Blackberry, and Sweet Cola. Oh, and they’re not people. They’re my most popular shades of clip-in extension rentals!
I get a lot of questions about clip-in extensions, so I’m answering my top 3 Qs right here, right now!
1 Do you think I need extensions?
I recommend clip-in extensions to almost everyone who wears their hair down and half up/half down. Even if you have super long hair, extensions will add thickness and help with the style lasting throughout the night. They can also add lighter tones (faux highlights anyone?) and temporary layers.
For those going the upstyle route, I may still recommend extensions based on your hair length, thickness and the desired style. Be sure to chat with your stylist about what they recommend – everyone has different preferences when it comes to using extensions in an upstyle.
2 Should I rent or buy? And what’s the cost?
Renting is a much more cost effective option for people who don’t anticipate wearing their extensions beyond their wedding day. In case you didn’t know, I offer clip-in extension rentals on a weekly basis. It’s first-come, first-serve as I only have a few sets of each shade and the cost is $95 plus hst*. If you’re interested, please send me an inquiry with the date of your event and we can set up a consultation to colour match and complete a reservation form.
If you expect to get more than 4 uses out of your extensions, it makes more sense to purchase your own set. I highly recommend BFB Hair and have recently become an official #bfbstylist. This means I can colour match you in-studio and order your extensions with a discount! Once your new set arrives, we can trim them if needed. If you’re interested, please send me an inquiry and we can set up a consultation to colour match and get your order in! The cost to purchase a full set of 21 inch BFB extensions is $380 (shipping incl) plus hst*.
3 I have semi-permanent extensions, can I keep them in for the wedding?
Yes, but only if you’re planning on wearing your hair fully down. Often the bonds (tape, keratin, even sewn in wefts) can be visible in a half up/half down style and I don’t have the flexibility to move them around like I would with clip-in extensions. Same story for an upstyle. Semi-permanent extensions are typically applied for seamless blending when your hair is down, not necessarily if you want to wear it up. For that reason, I recommend removing your tape-ins, bonded, and tied wefts for the wedding.
I hope this helped you navigate the world of clip-in extensions! As always if you have specific questions, don’t hesitate to pop into my DMs on Instagram! I’ll be happy to help as best as I can.
Until next time,
xo Kira
